You may be at a point in your life where you just don't understand how you've gotten where you are currently.
You tried the route of following everyone else's advice despite them not being anywhere you want to be.
You have tried the route of numbing yourself until you can't even see straight.
You have even tried the route that's plagued with fear and shame of who you are.
Now you've read this article and thought to yourself, " What point is she getting to?"
The point I am getting to is you have done so much for yourself already that you decided to click on my blog post. You were led to this specific moment in life so you could have another giant green banner that told you " You need to make a change and this article will unlock a new key to your future success."
I am currently jumping away from a route that was taking me into what I would call a sad place.Â
A sad place is when you are making and choosing actions that are not aligned with who you truly are without everyone else's opinions.Â
Now I would love it if you were to write down three things that are taking you currently to a sad place.
Mine currently are after deciding to try out new and old habits based upon my family’s background.
Church ( Specifically ones rooted in misogyny, shame and fear tactics)
Dive Bars( specifically the ones with the upcoming rappers and their mixtapes)
Entertaining negative nancy types of people ( Old friends, sometimes my own dad)
These activities and places drained me before I even arrived or decided to give my energy to them. I couldn’t get up in the morning to look forward to church. I barely had fun at the dive bar due to honestly having no urge to be super drunk. I also couldn’t stand being around anyone who was miserable no matter the things they could be grateful for; for example having a job that paid them weekly, a home and clothes. These are just my icks and sad place fuel.
Now I would love it if you were to write down four things that bring you immense joy.
Mine are based upon things that I haven’t done in a while but invigorated my spirit.
Poetry Events
Artist Gala’s/Parties
Teaching Art
Improv Comedy Practice
So, I have decided to keep doing the bottom list as my soul feels happier when I have these activities in my life. It’s gotten me to a point where I have more art in my life, more laughter and I am motivated to get up in the morning. Trying my hand at Improv comedy gave me a new confidence in myself about how I am hilarious. Attending the past Future Urban Leaders Gala this november at Saint Kate allowed me to show off my artist skills. Teaching at MPS as a Special’s teacher helped me find the joy in creating art with children again.
It's absolutely wonderful to change who you are when you are not happy with the results of conditioned mannerisms or habits.
Now I would love it if you were to write down 3 things you want to add to your life.
Mine are:
More bonding with artists
Reading more books and less TV
Stepping out of my comfort zone at eventsÂ
Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you have now some next steps for yourself to get from a sad place into a space for your happy place to show up more.
Come back on Wednesday!
I'll have more homework for you to do to get from a sad place to a happier place. We can do this together.
