I've used this exercise a few times in my life so far, mainly in my planner and personal journals. It was taught to me from several women who are very successful in their own personal lives.
You want to sit down with yourself and compare your current life, habits, people etc. To what you have been saying you desire. For an example my current list in my own planner right now for one catergory of my life:
My Current Reality VS My Ideal Reality
Lead Artist (At My Current Nonprofit job) Freeflowing Adaptive Artist
No set schedule Schedule Freeform
Art for fun Art for fun & stability
Vending sometimes Organized Vending Schedule
Multimedia Artist Multitalented Art
Owner of Zakia Wells Art & Spirit Online store & multistore vending
Now I can personally see a lot of flaws in my own list. I am not specific enough, I have an idea of the reality I desire but what I currently have written makes this life harder to obtain. There isn't a way to set a clear goal for Freeflowing Adaptive Artist for an example. Also a schedule that is freeform is very sporaidic; I do not truly desire that.
I want you to take a moment and write your list. Then like how I am about to do; I want you to adjust and edit this list to your true desires which will make you truly happy. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to do this; and if you're very confident in who you desire to be then it could take less time.
My Revised Ideal Reality List
Full-time Paid Traveling Artist $35+ an hour
Art Journaling (Optional Sharables, Patreon)
Art Prints,Books,Bookmarks for my art audience (Patreon)
Monthly Calendar Informing myself & audience about my activites (Newsletter perhaps, ask around)
Successful Owner of Zakia Wells Art & Spirit
I like to keep this list to a minimum of 5. Yours will differ depending on life catergories you choose to break down into a realty vs ideal list.
Now that I have my list; it's up to me to find people, opportunities and ideas about how to get to such goals. By thinking, researching, and hoping these goals will come to me closer than ever vs if I just kept wishing on them.
Let's check back on this list in 3 months, 6 months and one year later.
